The Filename Must Be The Barcode

A video file must be named after the barcode of the product it is for, and nothing else:

012345678905.mp4 — correct.
fence post driver.mp4 — will never play.

That filename is the only thing that tells a kiosk which video to show when a shopper scans a product. There is nowhere else the connection is made, which is why a file named after the product uploads perfectly happily and then does nothing on the shelf.

Product names are attached separately, from a spreadsheet — see attaching product names. Those are for you to read; the filename is for the kiosk.

Step 1 of the Upload Videos page, whose hint under the file control reads: Video files (.mp4/.mov/.avi — filename must be the barcode). Beside it a Choose Folder control is labelled Or a whole folder.
The rule is printed under the control that uses it, and it applies to every file in a folder just the same.

Worth Knowing

  • No spaces, no product name, no version number. Just the digits and .mp4.
  • Uploading the same barcode again replaces it the next time you publish. That is how you correct a video.
  • A leading zero counts. Spreadsheets like to eat them; check the filename, not the cell.
